A look at Non Nursing Bras: Pregnancy and Post Breastfeeding

There is so much to consider when pregnant...buggies, cots, clothes, nursing bras just to name a few! But have you thought about the transitioning stage from pre-pregnancy bras to soft cup non nursing bras? This is frequently forgotten about and so often pregnant women end up wearing their pre-pregnancy bras for too long, causing pressure on their expanding chest and breasts!

Did you know that in the later stages of your pregnancy your chest and breasts can increase by 1 or 2 sizes! That’s a lot and needs to be dealt with as soon as your bra begins to feel tight or uncomfortable. You can choose to either go into a nursing bra straight way, or some people prefer to wear a non nursing bra which has all the benefits of a nursing bra, but without the nursing clips. You can wear these bras throughout your entire pregnancy and once your milk comes in, then you can make the switch to a nursing bra.

We offer 4 different styles of non nursing bras (availability subject to country). All bras feature a soft cup or a flexiwire and are 100% cotton lined for skin breathability. Just like our nursing bras, they have 6 hook and eyes for ribcage expansion with wider straps on the larger cups for added strength.

When you make the decision to stop breastfeeding, your breasts can quite often be a little different to prior pregnancy. Throughout your life and especially during pregnancy and breastfeeding the size and shape of your breasts can change. Breast size is determined by how much fatty tissue there is. Making milk creates denser tissue in your breasts and after breastfeeding, both the fatty tissue and connective tissue in your breasts may shift.

Your breasts may or may not return to their pre-breastfeeding size or shape. Some women's breasts stay large, and others shrink. But sagging or staying full can be as much a result of genetics, weight gain during pregnancy, and age as a result of breastfeeding. It’s important to look after your breasts post breastfeeding and a non nursing bra can make that transition back into a underwire pre pregnancy bra a lot easier. The 6 hook and eyes, allow you to adjust your bra while you breasts transition and the soft cup underwire can also be more comfortable than moving straight back to an underwire bra.

Remember good things take time and you need to look after you breasts both pre and post breastfeeding.
